FRANKFURT – The Director General of Immigration, Silmy Karim, officially launched the issuance of Electronic Passports (E-Passports) at the Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Frankfurt, Germany. The first e-passports were issued to Antonius Yudi Triantoro, the Consul General of Indonesia in Frankfurt, and Gwenda Praya Kinanti, an Indonesian citizen residing in the consulate’s jurisdiction, on Friday, 20 September 2024.

Consul General Antonius Yudi stated that the number of Indonesian citizens (WNI) in the Frankfurt Consulate General’s jurisdiction has been steadily increasing each year, with most of them being students and healthcare workers.

Frankfurt becomes the 10th Indonesian diplomatic mission to offer E-Passport services. Before this, E-Passport services were available at Indonesian missions in Singapore, Tokyo (Japan), Seoul (South Korea), The Hague (Netherlands), Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), Los Angeles (USA), Berlin (Germany), Sydney (Australia), and Beijing (China).

Antonius also highlighted the support from the Immigration Attaché in Berlin in providing “Eazy Passport” outreach services to several cities within the Frankfurt Consulate General’s jurisdiction, making it easier for Indonesians who need passport renewals. The jurisdiction of the Frankfurt Consulate General covers six regions: Hesse, Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Saarland, accounting for more than half of Germany’s total area.

In terms of public services, the Frankfurt Consulate General has been responding to the rising demand for services following the significant increase in the number of Indonesian citizens, especially over the past two years. Therefore, the availability of electronic passport services at the Indonesian mission has become increasingly crucial to meet this growing need.

“With over 17,000 Indonesians living in the jurisdiction of the Frankfurt Consulate General, efficient immigration services are essential. The availability of electronic passport applications at KJRI Frankfurt now facilitates faster and more convenient processes for Indonesian citizens working or studying in Germany,” said Director General of Immigration, Silmy Karim.

During his official visit, the Director General of Immigration also inspected immigration services in Düsseldorf. He held direct dialogues with community representatives, addressing concerns and opinions regarding immigration services, citizenship, and other related public services.
